Traveling from the UK

Postby winlace » Thu Jan 03, 2013 11:21 am

Hi all.

Newbie to this site. My wife (31) and I (36) would really like to travel to Desire RM in june and was wondering if anyone knows of a good and genuine company to book a complete flight and accom package through.

Regards

And hope to see you there

Peng Travel used to be a popular choice for those from the UK that wanted to book a combined package deal, but I understand that they are now out of business.

You could try Expedia UK or hopefully some other Brits members on the forum will chime in with their thoughts.

Hi Winlace

Also newbies from the UK, we are looking at going the last week in April. I got in touch with Char Travel after looking for a good travel agent that did this sort of holiday, but they only really do accommodation, not flights. they had some good suggestions about how/when to book for tho to get more...bang for your buck...(sorry)

We are 33/30 feel free to PM me to chat as we seem to be in similar boats!

In all honesty most of the groups(located outside of the USA) that offer packages(flight+hotel) for Desire will almost always be more expensive that booking your own flights and booking the resort separately with a good TA like Char who specialized in the Desire properties - there are lots of air choices from either LHR or Gatwick

For instance I just did a quick airline search and for June 2013 Virgin Atlantic is offering direct non stop, round trip flights from Gatwick to Cancun for a total of £1,143.60 for two - all fees and taxes included.

Even BA out of LHR is not too much more but travel time will be longer since you have to transfer in Miami USA each way.

My wife and I 28/28 are traveling to desire pearl in June for our first time also and went through Travelocity all the rates seemed to be pretty much the same wherever I looked. I'm assuming they are an international company and have always been great with our trips.

Hi Winlace

We are going for our first trip next week, from the UK. We simply booked directly - flight with BA (Gatwick-Cancun); accommodation on the Desire website.
Didn't have any problems booking. Not sure if there is a cost benefit going through an agent.

Looking forward to some sunshine and fun times!

I think that you are probably right about not saving a great deal...however we are from Yorkshire in the UK...as my fellow countrymen will know, Yorkshire folk are not easily parted from their money!

Sounds like June is the invasion of the Brits, maybe we should postpone till then!

Hi Guys,

We booked with Peng last year, thinking they might offer better price and service, but to be honest we fared no batter than just booking flights and accommodation directly, which is exactly what we have done for our trip this year :) Virgin do direct flights to Cancun and the Desire website is user friendly for making bookings..

Here is the official gateway page http://www.desireresorts.com/
from which you can get to the specific page for each of the Desire properties

Hi
We go regular from the UK to Desire - just had our 8th trip! We book direct with Desire - they can also organise the airport pick ups for you. And then book your flights direct. Up until last year, we used Thomson or Thomas Cook as they were always the best value but now Virgin has started non stop flights we went with them and it was so much cheaper and then everything is also included once you're on the flight. We even had the added bonus of getting a free upgrade to Premier class on the way home! We are looking for flights again for the end of the year and Virgin on a like for like comparison to Thomson is £232 each cheaper!

Thanks so much sunlovers. Will be booking tomorrow for early June. Hope the weather will be good. Virgin flights are a great deal by the looks of things. Haven't even booked yet and we are getting really excited.

There is a recently set up airline comparison web site called Skyscanner.net which will give you all the different ways to get from anywhere in the world to anywhere else. For an initial look I never use anything else, but once I have the information I tend to go to the airline's own site to actually buy the ticket.
