Phone Video at Dinner

Postby wanderingcoupletoo » Fri Oct 25, 2024 10:05 pm

We were at dinner at Sahlo and a couple was video taping their table food prep on their phone camera. Unfortunately we were in the direct line of the camera. My wife held up her menu to try and block our faces. When I complained to the waiter he tried to downplay the situation and said that taking video of food was ok. We’re a relatively low maintenance couple but the situation pissed me off. I should have requested that the couple delete the video but they seemed to leave quickly afterwards the incident. Is it correct for me to assume that the restaurants are a ‘public space’ and that the privacy rule still applies to them?

As with every other facet of life in the 21st century, true privacy is an illusion. There are actually security cameras everwhere so we are always being filmed. Even the transportation and airline records can be obtained if you know what to say and who to say it to and from there anyone can be identified. Even your voice print can identify you and almost every call you make now is recorded somewhere, you know "for quality assurance".
Probably just as fast as that couple filmed their food the video was posted on some social media site; even asking them delete it would be futile. That is pretty poor behavior on their part but it is not a Desire issue. It is an issue with our culture in general.
Some are reigniting the flame. Ours never burned out. Just dumping gas on it!

Thanks for the response. My concern is that the staff did not stop their obvious use of the camera based upon the RM rules. When I questioned the staff they were defensive in a way that showed that they knew they should have askerd her to stop filming. Since there were multiple staff around the situation (much closer to the filming than us), while agree that there is a culture aspect, I would absolutely disagree that RM doesn’t hold responsibility to how their staff respond to their “golden rules”.

While I understand the increased erosion of privacy in society, it doesn’t mean that we have to passively accept it in all aspects of our life.

We were there in June, a lady in front of us at the pool was face timing and I saw myself in the picture in our cabana in all my glory- DRM doesn't care anymore about the No Camera No pic rule. During night time entertainment a man was filming the dancers, security came right over to him and made him delete the video. Just wish they were more proactive for the guest privacy.

RM seems overrun with phones all day and night. Gone are the days of being made to put a sticker on the lens.

Unfortunately a lot of the standards that once made desire stand out have been eroded, ( especially at RM) theres often people smoking around the pool and and hot tub as well as vaping in it. The smell of cannabis is at times hovering in the air. Security don't really enforce anything these day unless you venture outside your room without your wristband.

Fortunately the dress standards in the restaurants are still being kept. Remember the times when a guy couldn't be in the hot tub by himself if his partner wasn't with him? They would be asked to leave lol, Oh the good old days :)

Still a great place though, and theres nothing else like it!
