Is there a better time of year to go?

Postby Johnny60 » Tue Oct 18, 2011 2:47 am

Hi Guys,

We have found the comments here very useful and are planning our first trip in 2012, probably March / April. We just wondered if there was a better time of year to go?

Between those two months we'd go for April. March the air temps can still be a little chilly at nights and the water in the ocean will certainly be too cool to enjoy for long. April is better.
Our favorite month to go is May- perfect weather. Warm but not too hot. Rarely any rain. Before hurricane season. Longer days with more sunshine to enjoy.

We've been several times in Feb. and the water temp has never been a problem. Less chance of rain in Feb. then in Apr. or May.

We used to go every Feb for Valentines Day but really found that although the days where warm enough (Avg 26>28C) the night temps combined with the constant on shore breeze where a real negative. Evening temps in Feb are on average in the mid to low teens(C).

When on our last Feb trip it was about 12C each evening and everyone was wearing sweaters or the provided robes in the lobby to keep warm we decided that this time of year(being the expensive high season) and combined with the downright cold evenings we would prefer to spend our times at Desire at other warmer times of the year when could enjoy both the days and the evenings.

Historically that is not accurate. As an example, here are the actual total rainfall amounts for those months in 2011.
Feb '11 - 529.84 mm
April '11 - 0 mm
May '11 - 24.13 mm

Wow that's a lot of rain in Feb... thanks for the input.. certainly a bit later in the year seems preferable...

Yes both Feb 2011 and Feb 2010 where exceptional for the amount of rain normally it is far less. In fact in Feb 2011 all that rain arrived in one week of the month - definitely glad I missed being there that week - lol

Gonna have to agree with Mike on this one. Winter months have the days too short and the nights too cold, Summer is just to dang hot (for us anyways. Been once in late June - never again) , the fall has hurricane potential. This makes May the perfect month ! Unfortunately, finding room at the resort anytime in May is getting harder each year.....

Mexico...cold? Interesting comment, lol.

It's a freaking iceberg at home in January/February, so for us that is the best time to get away! It breaks up the winter season.
Going from -40c at home to mid teens at night in Mexico, well I'm sure we can suffer through it
