Just got back a couple of days ago, and I thought I'd report on a couple of improvements we observed.
The first you might not notice, but once you do, it's absolutely huge. There were no mosquitos at all! I never once noticed a mosquito; wife was bothered just once. Usually, when you go back to your room at night, you can see a swarm of them around your outside light. This past week there were none around our light. In a conversation with Lazaro I mentioned this, and he said that they had been treating the water in the swamp near the resort. It seems to make a big difference.
The second is their efforts to reclaim the beach. While the difference is still small, I think that the beach is getting wider. They have placed giant sand bags extending out into the water at either end of the beach, and several just beyond the ropes, running parallel to the beach. The purpose seems to be to capture beach sand inside their bounds. I believe this is working to some extent. In the past I've seen water at high tide coming right up to the bottom of the beach beds, but this past week it only reached a few feet short of that (but this might also be due to weather). Also, we swam out to the barriers outside the ropes, and found that just inside these, for perhaps 4-6 feet, the water is only about 3-4 feet deep, so there is definitely sand being trapped by them.
There is also a good deal of landscaping going on. A bunch of shrubs and flowers have been planted within the resort, as well as just outside (near the jacuzzi building), that make nice settings for photos (discreetly, of course).
