In April my wife and I will be staying the first night at Hotel Ojo de Agua in Puerto Morelos which is only about a mile from Pearl. Is it easy to get an Uber for this trip?

I will say, we've never done it but have friends that do it often. You may not be able to get an "X" but XL's are readily available for a minor difference in price.

I don't care about which Uber but I figure it has to be way cheaper than getting USA Transfers for that short trip.

You can go into your app and select Puerto Morelos and set your pick-up point and destination and see real time availability and rates.
Uber is widely available in the Pearl area. Nonexistent in the RM area unless you get lucky and someone just got dropped off at a resort nearby.

There are tons of local taxis in PM that will make the trip even cheaper. Nice people too! Once we’re at Pearl or in PM, we use local taxis!

Taxi's were great. Used them a couple of times. Nice to support the locals.

Taxis are available everywhere in the main traffic areas in towns like Puerta Morelos or Puerta de Carmen. Or just ask the doorman at the hotel you are staying in to get you one. Always been friendly, reliable and reasonable and you can pay with dollars. Taxis are so easy, Never found uber to be necessary.

The reason I mentioned Uber was the luggage issue. If you travel like my wife, it's a 4 large bag adventure (yes, she once brought 16 pairs of shoes for 7 nights!). You're never fitting 4 large bags and 2 normal sized adults in any cab I've ever seen around PM...hence the Uber XL. If you have bags like normal folks, then yes a cab will do just fine.

4 bags for a vacation where you can be nude or almost nude most of time! If my wife brought 4 bags she would have to carry them herself.

The first trip we made to Pearl we had one checked bag. No more. It's carry on only for our trips to Pearl and Hedo, we each take two bags. All costumes get packed into their own zip lock bag. It makes the bags kind of heavy but not having to check your bag in or wait for the bag to come back out at baggage claim(over an hour that first time at Cancun) is well worth it. So to at US customs which we do at Salt Lake City. We have Global Entry and with face ID now the customs guy greets us by name as we approach his little stand and we don't even stop walking as he waves us through.

That's the same for us. We go for 8 nights and are team carry on for a multitude of reasons. One, we hate waiting for bags (who doesn't). We determined we can have as much fun with her wearing daytime flips and night time flips and one pair of semi-heels. Realize mileage varies with this for others. Two, returning home from Cancun is always a crap-show checking bags and checking in. Carry on, you go to the computer terminal, scan your passport and you're on your way. Three- we bring liquid compliant sunscreens and lotions. My (male) long beach pants for dinner and closed toe shoes take up way more space than her skimpy, barely-there dresses, so I'm the one with the heavier bag. Lastly, when we get home we barely stop at customs- out the door in less than a minute usually.
We realize everyone is different and there's no wrong way to do Desire. But this works for us (16x now since 2020 and counting).

We do one checked bag each. Our night-time costumes are not that skimpy and take up room; but always get good compliments for creativity. We have to go to the ticket counter anyway so it doesnt tack on too much time for us. Only once did we get hasseled at customs going back into the US. Usually it is fairly smooth and we even know one of the customs folks here at Logan by name now.

Why do you have to go to the ticket counter? That's another great thing about not checking a bag, never have to stop at the counter.

We get a "meet and greet" employee from the airline to give us a guide through security and to our gate. THe only place we can pick that up is at the ticket counter. THere are a few airports that we know well enough that we could make due without it but that wouldn't work anyway since the self-checkin/electronic boarding passes aren't accessible to screen readers. It is just one more speed bump we get used to when we travel.

We live down here. Taxis can handle the luggage. There are enough van sizes, just tell the front desk. Uber will be hard and likely have a hard time getting into the resort as they sometimes have deals with taxis. Very controlled here. Just negotiate first. OR there is an app called INDRIVE. Download it, you set the price and they bid on it. You can even see the size of car. Like Uber but more accepted and some taxis even use it
