Bug bites lately?

Just curious. In our many trips to Desire RM, we haven't figured out a pattern to this but sometimes we end up covered in insect bites, sometimes no bites at all. Haven't been able to tell if it's happening at the beach or at the pool or day or night and can't figure if there are times of the year when it's more likely. When we were there this January, I got tons of bites on my legs (but not really many elsewhere) so I'm thinking it might be from the beach--although we really spend minimal time there and most of our time at the pool. I must be REALLY tasty, because bug repellant spray doesn't seem to work!

We are headed to the D next week and just wondering if those who've been there recently ended up with bites or not? Itchy, bumpy, red skin is NOT sexy!! Just wondering if I'm going to need to bring anti-itch cream and long pants...

We always pack bug spray and use it on our lower legs in the evening. When we were there in May, there were some people who were covered in bites and other of us with none.

One thing I always make sure that I do is to remove whatever flowers have been included in the towel arrangement immediately when I go to the room after it has been made up. It seemed that we would go to bed with no bites and wake up with some. As I said we also use bug spray and we never ever go on the beach at night. When they used to have the beach party at night we would always end up with bug bites.

We will be there July 5th to the 11th so hoping to come home bug bite free :)

We are early morning beach people (coffee in the calm time of the day is wonderful!) I get bites mostly on my feet even with bug spray. I do try to wear flip-flops to keep out of contact with the sand. I never see what gets me and I must be sensitive to their bite. Mr bb25 does not seem to have the same problem. He is less likely to apply bug spray and does not seem to get the flare up from bites that I do. Must be my pheromones that attract the little beasts! = )

We did not see the resort spray for bugs on our recent trip but it was likely too wet and rainy to bother.

We agree that it is hard to pin point a time of year or time of day the bugs are worse. Guess that it is a factor involving rain and the life cycle of the bugs.

We were at Desire in early May and we've been in early September. Hubby got bitten a lot both times. They love him. From our experience it's hard to tell which time was worse. In May, though, we definitely saw them spray. How do we know? Well, one evening going to dinner we heard a loud sound and then saw the man spraying. Those fumes are pretty bad. We thought we were well ahead of him but then we had to pick up our pace to stay ahead and were almost running by the time we got to the white restaurant. We were laughing so hard by the time we got there.

Unfortunately, I consider myself an expert on this topic. =:) I used to think the beach bugs were the culprit, and although I do get some minor bites from those invisible buggers, the major problem I have is with the mosquitoes that hang around the lobby bar area at night. If I spend any time at all under the thatch around the bar, I get bit like crazy. You need to stay in the breeze if at all possible. I have used spray, but really hate the smell...and if there's any chance that a friend or two may want to kiss/lick...I'd hate for them to get a mouthful of DEET! :bj

Last year, I used those battery operated bug spray fans and they seemed to work pretty well. Depending on my outfit (or lack thereof), I would either hook it onto my clothing, or place it on a chair or table near me. One added benefit was that it kept the bugs away from my friends, as well. It doesn't smell, either!

Nothing is perfect, however, and I always get bit! I bring lots of topical anti-itch cream and take a benadryl before sleeping to ease the discomfort. It's the only negative aspect of a trip to Desire, so totally worth it, in the end!

We brought an Off! Clip on this year & it definitely helped. Still got a few bites but we did better than most.
