Now that we've booked our May, 2013 trip...we are excited to tell friends and family that we're going on vacation. Of course, since we choose to keep our private lives private...wondering what people in our situation tell their family/friends about where they will be spending their vacation??? Is there a hotel close by we could use as a "cover"? We don't want to wait two weeks before we leave to tell people... Any suggestions?

We usually tell people "Azul". It's the next resort north of Desire RM.

We always said "south of Cancun", then stumble thru trying to say and spell "Puerto Morelos"....most will just nod and say "okay" (as in "nevermind").

We told everyone Azul. We walked up there one day just so we could answer any questions if asked. When people asked, we told them it was great, but we thought it was going to be adults only, but then we got there they had a big kids zone, so we were disappointed with that.

Once we said that, no more questions are asked.

We say Mexico. If asked further.....Riviera Maya. People shake their heads and that's usually the end of it. If pressed further....A "couples" resort...

But... one of my colleagues decided to look up on Google maps, what the Azul looks like from space, then he come to me and said
"Why the hell you go across the globe every year, from Australia to Mexico, spend a small fortune on airfares, just to spend two weeks in what appears to be quite crappy resort ?!?!?!"

All I could come up in response was - "I meet my drinking buddies there."

I just get an international calling card... and check in from time to time for family matters. Otherwise, if it is a dire emergency, they will call my cell... I just gulp and pay the charges of roaming fees. When you pay $500+ per night, what's another few dollars for peace of mind! For friends and family, no surprise that we are going to an adults only, clothing optional resort If they don't understand, they are probably not friends or close family!
