to all you folks coming down soon....bring plenty of spray and use it liberally! people here are getting bitten in some bad places. havent seen any type of bombing as in the past and the mosquitos are killing everyone here so BE PREPARED!
also, the lunch/pool are was destroyed last weekend from the storm that hit Mexico. they are working feverishly to rebuild but from what they've told us, it wont be used until at least another week. (they are making it much bigger also). they are using the buffet area for lunch and set up a small bar nearby.
lots of folks had to extend their stay due to the hurricane and of course, the are so sad about that

outside of that, the place is great as usual.

Yup bugs for sure.We were there 16 -26 and they were not good. But they are no longer fogging, wich is better than spraying. They need to go back to the fogging, also this way they would not have to hire out to do the job. a staffer used to do the job.........
Wow!

With all the hype watching Irene cruise up the East Coast we didn't even hear about a storm hitting Mexico! And every time we have been there, the last 3 years, they have fogged about the time that we are all up in the hot tub. By the time we gather at the lobby bar before dinner, Desire is almost bug free! Desire please fog

. Anyone know why they are not fogging anymore?

We were there 8/2 -8/9 and didn't see them fog either. Seems the women were getting the worst of the bugs from the knees down. Remember to spray your ankles and feet with deet.

little fishies in the water too that nibbled. seriously. some folks blaming hottub for rashes as well. all that said, probably no different than any other resort in the world as far as bites go but i'd rather get them here.

and check out Africa's new hair! amazing transformation.

Tikihutguy, we we're there 7/26 to 8/2, we saw them fog while in the jaccuzzi, but we both got bitten pretty bad nonetheless... We think it was while eating pizza around 2-3 in the morning at the bar. Mainly in the lower legs and feet. And some of those bites still itchy even after a month! So next time, we'll be using bug spray from the knees down all the time...

We were there 7/27-8/2, noticed fogging one night, and other than one bite that C got, from a rather large bug that she saw, we had little issues with bugs......

We arrive tomorrow, and we always come prepared for the bugs- but of course we always hope they are under control ! The weather plays a huge part in whether or not that happens. Any time there is rain the bugs get worse. And whether or not Desire can fog effectively depends on winds and rain on the particular day. If it is very windy, or if they expect one of those little early evening showers that are so common there this time of year- fogging is a waste.
Deet wipes and spray, check- after bite, check-
antihistamine, check. The little buggers may be a minor annoyance- but we won't let them ruin our fun !

Thanks Steve ! And we will pass on those hellos.
Maybe our last night, when a lot of the group is gone, we'll just call ourselves Steve & Nancy- all the fun we have that night will be in your names !! It won't be quite like being there for you, but we'll let you know what you did so you can savor the memories...........
Lol- we'll miss you !

A little update on the "bugs" situation. We just returned and yes- the bugs were a big problem on this trip. Especially on the last 3 nights when there wasn't much breeze.
There was no fogging at all this trip. The word we got when we asked about it was that due to concerns from some guests about the safety of the spray Desire has stopped that process. But, starting tomorrow, they have contracted with an outside company who will be using various methods including spraying and "baiting" to keep the bugs under control.
This is all supposed to be much more effective than the old process on both mosquitos and the dreaded yellow flies.

Thats great and all Mike but the real question is .........did my wife and I have a good time ??? or we have been banned from ever returning to Desire ??

Seriously though , Hope you had a great trip ! Interesting update about the bugs. What about the coons by the lobby bar ? Are they still floating around late at night ? Between those and the bugs, it sounds like it'll be like running the gauntlet to get back to your room at night.

Steve- you and N had a fantastic night Friday- you were the life of the party and certain people will never forget you !!!!!!!!!!!!!! The things you did- and the places you did them............well lets just say you set a new standard. Lol- the night manager has decided that you CAN come back if you promise to do it again next time !
The raccoons are still there. Momma and 4 little ones were a common site. Desire has put up signs in a couple different locations reminding people never to feed the wildlife. But...........of course we did did see a couple of late night occasions where people ignored that and the raccoons were near the bar being fed by guests.
