I sort of remember in the past that Desire offered free night/s in the fall. Like stay 4 nights get one night free. Has anyone heard that this special will be offered this fall??

It's doubtful if Desire will ever offer the free nights deal again - all their promos for the last several years have been just a time limited percentage off of their regular rates.

Here is a link to all their posted fall promo rates

Unfortunately, we have heard the opposite of great deals. We have heard that Desire is going to raise it's rates from $510/nt for gardenview rooms Jan-Mar to $530/nt and $590/nt for oceanview. This comes from a VERY knowledgable travel agent who has the "right connections". If this happens it sure will have people searching for alternatives. If you plan to book during that time, you might want to do it now.

Should that come to pass, we will have made the last of our winter trips to Desire.....

We have made 15 trips to Desire between the two resorts (when there were two), and we feel they are getting to be overpriced. Of course, with 70%+ occupancy, why not push the limit? They can always run sales for weeks that don't hit their expectations.

And with Hedo III and GL Braco closing, the alternatives are limited.

The 2012 rates are out and have been for a couple months now- in fact we had a discussion a while back on another thread here in the forum on the subject- I just can't recall the thread (I know- I'm getting old).
Anyway, it doesn't matter if you book today for next February or wait a couple months the rate will be the same right up until the deadline for the early booking discount- That rate is $480 per couple per night in garden view for Jan-April. It you wait till very late to book after the early booking deadline then yes the $530 is correct. Either way- it's about a 5% increase over the rate this year. The rate for the offseason 2012 (with the early booking special)- will be $360 per couple per night as opposed to $344 this year- again a little less than 5%. Keep in mind that the rates were unchanged from 2009 thru 2011. A 5% increase after 3 years seems pretty reasonable.

There is another thread just started on the topic here:

One other thing- yes there was a buy 3 get one- buy 5 get 2 night free deal for September last year. But it did not come out till about July 1st- and it was retroactively applied to everyone who had booked earlier.
As Coke said I don't expect it to happen this year either. But even if it does and you have booked early you'll still get the deal (I know that has been guaranteed for our Sept group week) so if you are sure you want to go regardless there is no need to wait.

Hello Mike

It was the same for our October 'Week43' group as well. Those that booked were able to get a credit for a later sale. The resort has always been good that way we have found when booking direct or via a travel agent :D .

The time's that we have heard of some NOT being able to get a credit back from a later sale, was if they booked with an online travel companies, such as Expedia, Travelocity, etc. Some of those companies only have a 48 hour or so window to find a lower price once you have booked.

I do agree though Mike, no time like the present to book a trip to the resort.

Absolutely ! Those of you who haven't booked yet for the fall also should keep in mind that Desire's special GV rates for the whole period of July 16 thru Dec 24 are set to end on May 2nd. After May 2nd the rates go up by $43 per person per night. The deadline could be extended for certain months- it's not uncommon- but you certainly can't count on it.
