Sept./early Oct. -5 stay/2 night free promo -worthwhile?

My husband and I are regulars at Desire Cancun. We have never taken advantage of this past 2010 late summer, early fall-extended to middle of October (hurricane season) " stay 5 nights get 2 more free nights" promo as advertised on a popular Lifestyle website.
While it's tempting to have two extra days free at this wonderful resort, we are wondering how filled the hotel was and how much of a fun atmosphere occurs during this season, without any "groups" scheduled to be attending.We would love to get feedback from couples who vacationed during this off-peak time. Are we better off returning when the hotel is guaranteed to be at near capacity with fun groups?

We paid for that promotion and stayed Oct 16-23rd. The resort was full and we had a great time. This is the 2nd time we took advantage of that sale & will do it again if offered.

We have gone every Sept since 2004. Many of those years there has been a promo for 1 or 2 free nights- but not every year.
We did have a group there this past Sept (Ynot's)- labor day week and the resort was totally sold out for the weekend and dropped down to 80 % or so mid week.
Most years- outside of group weeks- the resort tends to be fairly full on the weekends but mid week can drop as low as 50% during Sept and Oct. Still we have always had a great time.
By the way- The Ynot's "end of summer blast" will be back at Desire Sept 1- 9, 2011 with Char travel.
Chances are any free night promo won't be announced for 2011 until early spring- but anyone who books before that has been given the promo retroactively.

p.s.- the free night promo is not something that is offered by any particular agent or group- it is a promo offered by Desire and is available thru all agents
